Newtown Early Learning Centre has a two-week free childcare settling-in period.

We’ll invite you and your child to spend time with us for a few hours on different days; interacting with the other children, getting to know the routines and the teachers who will be caring for your child.

We’ll give you a copy of our induction pack, with all the information you’ll need to settle in to the centre. We’ll also introduce you to other parents and a member of the committee, who will let you know more about how the centre operates.

Coming to the centre is an exciting time for both you and your child. There are new things to do and discover, new sights and smells. We look forward to sharing this special time with you!

Open hours

We are open from 8:15am to 3:30pm Monday to Friday.

We are open throughout the year, including school holidays, and we close for a three week period over the Christmas holidays.

Fees

Newtown Early Learning Centre is not for profit – we keep fees low to meet the needs of Wellington families.

Under 3 years old
$42.41 per day

Over 3 years old
20 free hours Early Childhood Education (ECE) subsidy (plus $5.85 per hour over six hours per day). Fee schedule available from Newtown Early Learning Centre.

Voluntary donation for over 3 years old
To ensure that we can maintain a high quality level of provision we ask parents for a voluntary donation of $10.00 per child per day.

Subsidies
WINZ childcare subsidies are available, and if applicable will be deducted from the cost of a session.

Free places
We provide one free place for one child per session. This can be because of financial hardship or for other reasons, and is at the discretion of our head teacher. These arrangements are kept confidential.

It is our policy that we do not turn children away if parents fall behind in fee payments. Instead our head teacher will make special arrangements with the parents for the payment of outstanding fees.

20 Hours Early Childhood Education (ECE)
Newtown Early Learning Centre has taken up the Government funded scheme to offer 20 hours of free Early Childhood Education (ECE) for 3 and 4 year olds.

Enrolments

We enrol children at our centre for a minimum of two days a week to enable them to form strong relationships with teachers and other children.

You will be invited to come to visits at the centre with your child to help them settle in and become familiar with our routines. You won’t be charged for settling visits.

We invite parents and whanau to

  • Assist with the governance of the centre by attending our annual general meeting and at least one committee meeting per year
  • Help out with the work of the centre; for example by accompanying your child on centre trips, helping out at working bees or spending a morning at the centre occasionally, sharing your skills with the children.

ERO review

Our most recent ERO review can be found by clicking here. The ERO review was positive and in particular noted: “Children learn and interact happily. They have fun at play which is usually child-initiated. Teachers engage in one-to-one responsive interactions with them. They are respectful, warm, nurturing and encourage children’s social skills and independence.”
